Fleastompers Opening
Monday, March 21, 7:30 PM
St Mark Presbyterian Church
10701 Old Georgetown Rd., Rockville, MD
$14 advance/$17 door
For nearly three decades, Bryan Bowers has been to autoharp what Earl
Scruggs was to the five-string banjo, combining instrumental virtuosity
with warmth, eloquence, expression and professionalism.
In 1993 he was inducted into the Autoharp Hall of Fame, where he stands
alongside Maybelle Carter, Kilby Snow and Sara Carter. He has an uncanny
ability to enchant a crowd in practically any situation. From his rather
unglamorous beginning as a street singer he has become a major artist
on the traditional music circuit who is also well known as a singer-songwriter.
Opening for Bryan are The Fleastompers, a local ukulele band playing
songs from the twenties and thirties on vintage instruments with rag,
hot jazz, novelty and even some happa haoli favorites! Mandolin master,
James Key, and multi-instrumentalist, Nick Smiley, (both from the band
Martini Red) Play the “ukes” while Don (Mellowtone) Peyton
provides the string bass.
