Work o' the Weavers
Monday, January 24, 8:00 PM
Unitarian Universalist Church of Silver Spring
$14 advance/$17 door
If I Had A Hammer, Midnight Special, The
Sloop John B, Goodnight, Irene, This Land Is
Your Land, Tzena Tzena, Wimoweh,
House Of The Rising Sun, Michael Row The Boat
Ashore, were all written or first popularized by The Weavers who
inspired the likes of The Kingston Trio, Peter, Paul & Mary, Joan Baez, Don
McLean and Bob Dylan.
David Bernz, James Durst, Mark Murphy and Martha
Sandefer trace the development of the Weavers from the ravages of
the Great Depression and the burgeoning union movement through the
Second World War and the McCarthy era to the 'folk boom' of the '60s.
With faithful adherence to the original arrangements, Work o' The Weavers,
provides an echo of their music and insight into a story that resonates in
these troubled times when an American's right – and indeed, responsibility
– to dissent is once again being challenged.
