Joni Mitchell is a legend in her own time, a tradition unto herself. IMT celebrates her genius and the extent to which she’s contributed to music worldwide with tonight’s tribute by some of the metro area’s outstanding musicians: Cathy Fink & Marcy Marxer, with two Grammy Awards and 40 WAMMIE Awards for folk, bluegrass and children’s music, are entertainment incarnate; Grace Griffith, who has also won numerous WAMMIES, has a voice of ethereal beauty that brings new dimensions to Joni’s music; Carey Creed’s sweet and versatile voice won her a WAMMIE for best female gospel vocalist, and she’s won several song contests for her folk and gospel songs; MC and songstress Loralyn Coles’ songs have been published in Sing Out! magazine and recorded by nationally recognized artists; folksinger/songwriter/guitarist, Lori Sumberg, a cantorial soloist, has been playing Joni songs for decades. Mark Suresh Schlanger will accompay her on hand drums and flute. Donna Long, former piano player with Cherish the Ladies, and Irish multi-string instrumentalist Zan McLeod will accompany the Joni singers.
