Mediaeval Baebes

Six dynamic, exotically beautiful women breathe renewed life into the addictive modes of medieval songs and poetry. Irresistible!!! Their hauntingly beautiful music and powerful presentation has captured the imagination of young and old alike and the devotion of audiences worldwide. In ten years the Baebes have placed three of their albums at the top of the UK classical charts and their recent contribution to the BBC production of The Virgin Queen (composed by Martin Phipps) garnered a well deserved Ivor Novello award in 2007 for best television soundtrack. Founding member Katharine Blake is also the music director and lead composer and arranger for the band. Born in London, she was classically trained at the Purcell School of Music and Richmond College. Through her work with the Baebes, Katharine has enabled audiences to discover largely unknown medieval texts by making them accessible and pertinent to the modern age. The medieval themes of nature, the life cycle, love, lust and longing are as relevant in 2008 as they were in 1408.
