Seekers Church | 276 Carroll St NW, Washington, DC 20012 | 7.30pm | Tickets $30 adv (+$2 processing fee), $35 door.

Say Sister! Guitar Festival will feature five master female guitarists of different styles. The artists will collaborate on songs and tunes as well as perform their own pieces.

The festival follows last year’s highly successful “Say Sister! Women in Old Time Music” festival curated by Cathy Fink. Expect the unexpected with virtuosity, levity and community all around women who are redefining the beloved instrument! All artists will be on stage for both sets, collaborating and performing separately in a magic evening of guitar love.

Featuring:

Yasmin Williams – Innovative & Avant Garde

The New York Times called her “one of the country’s most imaginative young solo guitarists.” NPR said, “Yasmin Williams is a fingerstyle guitarist who taps, slaps and slides up and down the fretboard of her instrument with a commanding sense of scenery that flickers between the strings.” Her latest album, Arcadia has been a game changer for innovative guitar.

Marcy Marxer- Bluegrass, Old Time, Rockabilly, GRAMMY winner

She has played acoustic music on Emmy Award winning National Geographic specials, platinum shipping Eva Cassidy CD’s and on over 75 recordings and instructional materials created with her partner, Cathy Fink. “As close to flawless folk/bluegrass as it gets.” – Billboard Magazine

Lisa Liu – Jazz & Django

"Liu performs with a confident grace that reveals an intuitive command of her instrument, and her versatile picking style ranges from a playful nimbleness to straight-up jamming."-Christa Titus/Billboard Magazine

Cathy Fink - Mother Maybelle Carter style, Folk styles, GRAMMY winner

Cathy has sustained a 52 year career in roots music, mostly with partner Marcy Marxer. She is dedicated to highlighting the accomplishments of women in roots music and recently published a course on the guitar playing of Mother Maybelle Carter with Peghead Nation. Also an ace old-time banjo player. Of the duo - “Spellbinding acoustic musicians, with a rare master of American roots styles.”–Boston Globe

Valerie and Benedict Turner are Piedmont Blūz,  ambassadors of Country Blues music, the Piedmont style of fingerpicking, and roots percussion. Valerie's fingerpicking is reminiscent of the intricate stylings of Mississippi John Hurt, Elizabeth Cotten, and Etta Baker. Benedict tastefully accompanies Valerie with a washboard, bones or harmonica.
